How to Use the California Code of Regulations

CCR Citations. The California Code of Regulations is abbreviated as "CCR." A citation to a regulation is read "25 CCR 60." The first number is the title number. The second number is the section where the specific regulation can be found in the title. Because there are 28 titles, it is important to have a title number to find the regulation. For your convenience, we have listed the titles on the "List of CCR Titles" page of this guide.

Subject Index. Regulations can also be found by subject in the subject index to the CCR, which is called the Master Index. For example, if you are looking for a regulation concerning "Certification for Amusement Rides," you first look in the index under the term "Amusement Rides," where you will find a subheading "Certification." This subheading includes a listing of the title and section number: "8:3914." The citation for "Certification" stands for Title 8, section 3914.

Table of Statutes to Regulations. Another way to locate a regulation is to look up the relevant state statute. For instance, if you wanted to find regulations related to Food and Agricultural Code 27553, you can look up that statute in Table of Statutes to Regulations in the Master Index, which follows the subject matter index. The table then refers you to "3:1358 and 3:1358.2" or Title 3, sections 1358 and 1358.2 of the CCR.
