Introduction

The purpose of this guide is to help you find authoritative government resources at the federal, state and local levels. The resources compiled in this guide can be useful in your legal research because it is governments at the federal and state levels that ratify and amend constitutions, enact laws, issue regulations, and execute, enforce and interpret these laws. At the local level county and city governments issue charters and ordinances while autonomous districts, such as port and transit authorities, can issue ordinances and resolutions that are enforceable in their jurisdictions. Indian tribes often have jurisdiction over their lands and have separate governing bodies that can issue laws and enforce these in their regions.
