OCR (optical character recognition) allows for the text of a document, image, or scan, to be interactive. According to California Court Rule 2.256, documents submitted to the court must be in text-searchable format, so it is essential for this to be done.
In the Text-Searchable Format (OCR) box below, you can click through the Steps tabs to see instructional videos on how to navigate through adobe acrobat. The videos do not have any audio, so please make sure to read the instructions provided on the the tabs. If you have any questions regarding the process feel free to ask a reference librarian for more information.
Open Adobe Acrobat on the computer. Once it is open, click on the Tools page in the upper left-hand corner. It has been highlighted and circled in the video for visibility purposes.
Under the Create and Edit section click on the Scan & OCR icon. The icon has been circled in red in the video below.
Now you can move on to Step 2.
After clicking on the Scan & OCR tool,click on the Select a file tab.
A pop-up window will appear. Now you can browse the documents on the computer and open the needed file.
After selecting your document, it will open on Adobe. You can now click on the blue "Start" button to begin working on your document.
Go to Step 3
Now that the document has loaded, click on the 'Recognize text' tool highlighted below. A drop down menu will appear. Click 'In this file' as we are only working with one document.
A new toolbar will open. The settings should remain as followed Pages: All Pages and Language: English(US).
You can then press the blue Recognize Text button. Depending on the length of your document, if could take a couple minutes to load. After its done loading, please make sure to save your document so the settings and transformation remain.
After making the needed adjustments to your document, it is essential for you to save it so the transformations remain. There are many ways to save your document on Adobe, and in the video below we will highlight one of those many ways.
On your screen, click on the File button found on the upper left-hand side. A pop-up menu will appear where you will now click on 'Save As.'
Another menu will appear with different folder and file locations. Click on the blue Choose a Different Folder icon on the bottom right of this pop-up.
Now you can search for the location where you would like to save this document to. After finding the location, click on the 'Save' Button on the lower right hand side of the pop-up. In the video below, the document is saved onto a USB Drive.
