Remote Appearances: CourtCall

What is CourtCall?

CourtCall is an online platform that allows attorneys and laypeople to appear by telephone (and sometimes video) in various civil proceedings. It has been in wide use since the 1990s and is accepted in California Courts.

It is fee-based, although in certain instances fee waivers can be requested of CourtCall.

Court Call Procedure

At this time, the San Diego Superior Court is using Microsoft Teams, a free tool, rather then CourtCall. You can see a complete list of CourtCall participating courts here.

You will need to arrange for and schedule your CourtCall appearance about five days in advance of the scheduled hearing. Consult the CourtCall website for details or call them at 310-342-0888.

Once you have made arrangements with CourtCall, the Court will be notified of your intended CourtCall appearance and will have their audio equipment enabled and ready at the time of the hearing.

On the day of the hearing, you will call into CourtCall ahead of time and will be placed in the queue. At the time of the hearing, the clerk will announce the case, and your call will be made live to the courtroom (often from audio equipment on the bench) and the hearing will proceed as if you are there in person.
